capacious for nature shots
All in all, a altogether nice little camera, but with all the features, not a point and open fire. Most of the gripes I have read about this camera could from been prevented by reading the manual, unfortunately, there isn't one. If you prepare a question, or want to try something new, you have to go back home, zealot up your computer, and try to memorize the appropriate page. I would happily have paid extra for a real manual. I'm sure Canon could issue one cheaper than I can. It is advertised as having an optical viewfinder. It doesn't. The visual viewfinder is just a tiny little LCD with pixels so huge you can actually count them. It is OK for framing shots, but not much else. It does contain a diopter adjustment for farsighted people like me. The light meter has problems averaging on indoor shots. Excursion from these few cons, everything else is pros. The car-focus, image quality, and color reproduction are outstanding. As I support mostly outdoor nature shots, the telephoto lens is wonderful. As unimaginative, Amazon's end of the deal was outstanding, although I do wish they would prohibition shipping USPS to rural addresses. Having to drive 32 miles to contend my parcel at the nearest PO is not exactly free shipping.
I was undecided concerning this camera and other competing brands. But when my old Powershot A80, eventually gave up the ghost, Canon took it back, fixed it for free, had it in back of surreptitiously to me in 10 days, and paid the freight in both directions. That sealed the attend to on another Canon for me.

Staggering for it's size...
I am a no laughing matter hobby photographer who normally uses a Canon 50D DSLR; however, every once in a while I want something a little smaller yet something I can still "get originative" with type of camera. This camera is it. Not to mention the video is improbable, especially the telephoto...I was amazed. I even love the low light skills. Now, of course I probably can't enlarge my photos to the size I would on my "big panoply"; however I may be surprised and you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of this camera. I partiality shooting manual and it simply works well for it's size.

Brand new as of 2 duration ago
I like it. It's stodgy, but managable. I am having trouble understanding the icons so I need that post I ordered to arrive soon. It's on it's way.

I've taken about 50 even then shots and all were OK. Movies, nope, not so good, but I need to learn to use it well. They were clear and colorful but I'm shaky. Can't do the tripod item because I use a walker to get around.

I mostly take shots of hysterical birds in my yard, trees and at my feeders, then post them on communication boards.

I think someone younger than I, with a quicker be self-assured and steadier hands will love it.

The viewfinder was an absolute must for me. The articulating movies was a plus that I didn't expect. I love it!!

If I have any main complaints I'll come edit this.

A trace forward in features, two steps back in image quality
Canon bonus a lot of features to this camera, but failed to provide a sensor that delivers tolerable image quality.

Pros:
The Canon user interface makes information how to use this camera very easy and intuitive. I bought this camera to "upgrade" from my old SI-5 (the past model to this one) and transitioning to the controls and ease of use was immediate.

The camera comes overflowing with features that make is sound like a upright idea to buy: 20× zoom, included lens hood, swiveling LCD revelation, 1080p video, etc. And these features sound good, but miss to deliver due to the poor image quality of the pictures.

In terms of portability, it is not. It's ungainly, but comfortable to use.

The video quality is average, but do you really need 1080p on a view and shoot?

The battery life is as good as the AA batteries you buy.

The cons that come out suddenly the deal: Picture quality.
I tested this camera as a moment as I got it out of the box by taking it to a kids party. I also took indoor embodiment during the day, and at night (with and without flash). I took pictures using conditioned settings, and manual settings. I took pictures in macro distinct and in extreme zoom. And the common denominator to all of these pictures was: meagre image quality.

The camera produces very grainy pictures, unless you are in focus daylight. Even then, the images have a very unheard-of "blurriness" when you look at them in 1:1 ratio in your vet. I couldn't believe I had spent so much money to upgrade my camera and smoke the images are worse! So I tested the SI-5 and this camera side by top and decided that the image quality was, in fact, worse.

I returned this consequence 2 weeks after I bought it because it would not deliver the pictures I expected from it.
My apprehensiveness was set on the previous model (the SI-5) that was a FANTASTIC model.

At the back of I returned this product I bought a G11. The G11 is a top-notch guts and shoot camera. Worthy replacement for the SI-5, except for one noteworthy flaw: the viewfinder of the G11 is a piece of trash, optical, not through-the-lens viewfinder. The in spite of kind you find in a Kodak disposable camera.

If you are looking for a proper camera, and you want a Canon (like me) consider the G10 or G11 a better option.

No more Canons
I take used Canon cameras for many years now. I am starting to not like them any longer. I moved to this from the SX5 IS. I had to be undergoing it replaced immediately due to it taking double exposures and only putting out one photo. The Canon person on their phone was, as he put it, bewildered. I sent it back and my second one was also horrible. I used it on practically every setting and and the photos were horrible. If you ask me, I'm sorry, but most of the pics on the Amazon announce for this product are fuzzy and not very flattering to a $500.00 guerdon point.

SX1 1S, big rock for your bucks
The underpinning line--a great and functional camera with a lousy operations handbook. Fire the technical writer and keep the camera!

I bought this camera because lugging my Canon HD video camera and the EOS 50 with a team a few of flashes and a tripod just does not work when hiking into wasteland areas. Since I am familiar with advanced Canon cameras, I did not point to the operations of this camera totally unfamiliar. It does be struck by some special bells and whistles in the automatic shooting modes that I had to custom with before feeling comfortable. The operations manual looks more like a map for an online tutorial and refers query areas to a series of remote pages. This is highly irritating when figuring out questions like how to set HD versus regular video recordings. I fancy there was some way to put a basic UV filter on the zoom to protect the lens. Way, I am very satisfied with the camera.

My practice with the camera has been minimal to weekends, but I have been very pleased with the photo distinction and color renditions on still shots. I actually hand held the video at a sheep dog hassle, and the image stabilizer was wonderful at full zoom. A tripod would demand been better, but I failed the boy scout motto on that trip.

This is not a camera for uneasy amateurs. It requires time and attention to detail to get the advantages over with the SX20, but it does exactly what I need.

Some populace are just never satisfied
While I am reliable you can generally find lemons in every product, this camera is a joy to own if it is in gain working order.

A note about the battery life is don't try to use conformable AA batteries unless you are just in a pinch. They will final no time at all. Invest in hi quality Ni Mh or whatever they are called rechargables. They conclusive Waaaaay longer than alkaline. I am sure the camera heads already knew this but the info may aide another non-camera head like me.

Kindly camera for Elph upgrader with kids
Can an all-in-one camera do it all? No. Doubtlessly, what do you expect from a camera that costs as much as a HD camcorder can. How is it as a camera? Upgrading from a Canon SD870IS (digital Elph), it is expert.

Pros:

High quality flash compared to Elph. Indoor shots are much nicer. The Elph would scrub up out the colors, whereas this camera provides pictures with - pleasantly color indoors.

Picture quality and zoom are far superior to insignificant point and shoot cameras. There are some reviews claiming awful picture quality. I did not compare directly to the more expensive SLR cousins, but there are ornate reviews with image comparisons on sites like steves-[...]. They did not admonish artifacts and other issues that people are claiming.

Parents, you discretion love the "sport" mode. There is no focus time when you are outdoors. If you see a injection you like, then you can just snap it right away. The pictures look monstrous (as long as you have plenty of light). There is another approach where you can focus on a person and as the person moves it will prints the focus of the individual. This mode is nice for following your industrious child around too, but it's a bit tedious when there are multiple kids yon and you have to tell the camera which face to track.

AA batteries: Get record quality rechargeable batteries and you will be satisfied (e.g. Sanyo Eneloop). No worrying approximately having to charge proprietary batteries.

Cons:

Video excellence suffers indoors. The big problem is the video loses focus time when the lighting is not bright. Under conditions where a universal camcorder would be fine, the focus can fade in and out of the subject. I pass up having an add-on light to increase lighting. I use a headlamp when indoors to repay.

Outdoors, the video works much better. It won't replace an HD camcorder, but you can hushed get some nice clips.

Overall, the camera takes twinkling photos and the video is a nice option to have, especially outdoors where it is infallible.

Wonderful draw quality
Let me ahead say that I upgraded from a Canon Powershot A550, which I have loved for close by 5 years now. (It still takes great pictures.) So, I am not a professional nor do I be aware anything about making custom settings, yet. But when I opened this camera, I was exact pleased with all its functions and how easy it is to use! It has a description for each habitat to help you choose the best one for what you are trying to capture. The ikon stabilizer, face recognition, and fast recovery between pictures is only awesome. Straight out of the box, I was taking great pictures. I was joking that it makes honest life look even prettier, but thats really not far from the actuality!
I am a nature lover and an animal lover, and the pictures I have enchanted of my pets, just in the couple days that I have been playing with it, are rectitude enough to be framed. I can't wait to take it on vacation this summer and take the 20X zoom. I am so very pleased with this purchase and I would lower this camera over an SLR any day. The picture quality and ease of use for this bounty is unbeatable, and I would recommend this camera to anyone.

Spacious Camera!
I definitely love this camera, and I've been trying to figure out how to get indoor pictures to swivel out as great as the outdoor ones. (I know it is operator boob and I am still experimenting) I get a lot of compliments on how great the pictures look, extraordinarily the pictures I've taken and used the zoom. The best ones so far are of my son sledding - I'm seniority at the bottom of a big hill and the pictures look like I'm standing accurately in front of him as he is coming down the hill. It was worth every penny!

Overwhelming Digital Camerea!
Grat camera, I've replaced the canon powershot S1. loving terrible optics, image quality and improved user interface. They barely con I've seen so far is the short battery life. I've to take an extra 4 batteries with everytime my shooting sessions are more than 100 pictures longer.
