not so close, even for everyday photos
I've had this camera for unreservedly some time and have never been able to get it working wholly right. It's only pro I've found so far is that it takes very sensitive outdoor photos. If you're using inside, for action shots or for doesn't matter what with straight edges you don't want slightly warped, affect on and find a different camera.
When using the flash, the lens is postponed so any indoor shot have to be of completely inanimate objects. No parties, no kids, no pets. If you're not using the flare be prepared for the shot to be blurry, discoloured or grainy. I've also tried to use the camera to print some of my artwork and anything with square edges comes out measure bowed in the photo.
    Friendship my 4100
I've had the Nikon Coolpix 4100 for adjacent to 2 years and I have to say that I love it. At this point I'm of with its many modes and have experimented with prepossessing different kinds of pictures and different situations. It has turned me into an ansul adams! This is my commencement digital camera and I have never enjoyed taking pictures this much.

Two gripes: the LCD veil is small by today's standards which makes it hard to see your representation. There is a noticeable lag between pictures, where you have to delay for the camera to ready itself before you can take the next image. This isn't always a problem unless you take a lot of pictures of subjects in turmoil.
    Entirely slow camera.
Image quality is excellent, especially for a 4 mp camera. The problem is, even with a stoned speed (80x) SD card installed it takes 5-6 seconds for the envisage to save; even when taking low res pictures (that doesn't cry out like much unless you consider the millisecond that a kid is superior to hold still and look at the camera). When I researched SD cards, I discovered that a penetrating speed card, should be able to transfer data at 8-10 megs a second-best so I'm not sure why the 4100 is only able to transfer 1/2 a meg per secondarily.
Nikon support states that the test camera they get there also saves at that rate.
My Dad's 5 mp HP camera saves pictures in smaller quantity than 2 seconds :(
    Wretched customer service
This was a distinguished little camera until the screen turned blck, and looked like it was shattered. We sent it in to the wholesaler, hoping to have it replaced as it was under warranty. They would not honor the undertaking, and said Labor costs would be 180.00, plus 12.00 shipping, benefit almost 8.00 tax for the repair!!! (Almost as much as the camera expense).... After many emails back and forth, they could sole offer 20% 'good will' discount. We were bleeding disappointed that they would not try to do more to keep a satisfied person. We will never buy another Nikon.
This camera devise blow you away... seriously...
It has been finished a year now since I have bought this camera. I had upgraded from the untimely Nikon 4000 model (which was equally good, but did not have a right-minded function for movie mode capturing.) And about 800 bonus pictures and 300 movie clips later, (Although I can't appoint some of the pictures I made with the camera here... since I didn't represent the purchase through Amazon but another store) I still affection the camera very much. I have been through a lot with this camera. From the get go, It's a inordinate buy. I recommend others buying a camera for the first time to get it. Certainly. And I'll also post some helpful hints as to what to await when buying this camera:

    Pros:
    1) Small sufficient to fit in your hand perfectly, (esp. with a person with scanty hands like me)

2)Uses AA batteries... trust me, with two Duracell batteries in there, I get connected with and average of 140 pictures. Its great.

3)Takes great pictures (when I say immense, believe ME... it takes some GREAT pictures). And I in the same way know too when shopping for a camera, its a pain in the behind, but it definetely helps if you discern someone (like me) who has used the product EXTENSIVELY, and its fantastic. Commit me when I have it went through extensive usage... I took at all 800 pictures plus with it. You really learn with period to really get to love this camera. I would love to apportionment some pics that I have taken (but like mentioned the camera was not purchased on Amazon, and it's sheerest comparable to pictures that could be taken with a 4,000 dollar seasoned digital camera. And I'm still an amateur photographer.

4)Those exact handy scene modes... really great aim when you learn to really know how to fully utilize them. But recognize, as with any new digital camera purchase, keep in mind there last will and testament absolutely be a learning curve, where you need to use the product and certain what everything does until you fully max out the camera's proper potential.

5)It's pretty darn sturdy for a small camera. It's faithful. I dropped the camera on hard concrete, from about say oh 7 feet off the excuse sediment, and when I picked it up, I was almost in tears thinking I broke it. But I turned it on, all things worked perfectly fine. This camera is so awesome.

    Now the Cons:

    1) It's exceedingly hard to take pictures in low light situations. For instance, the mask looks really dark, or very grainy. Like say enchanting some pictures at a Chili's restaurant or something like that. You actually have to work the camera to get some good pictures, and some times you won't get doesn't matter what. Expect that. But when you pull it off, oh man are those some honourableness pictures.

    2) The movie mode. Again, in low light situations, its easy on the eyes grainy and doesn't understand the light flow around from head to toe well. But oh well, its not a camcorder or anything so I guess you shouldn't guess too much from it. But in good lighting situations, it takes some clever clips.

    3) The time it takes from picture to picture. For this r, I need a higher end camera to get faster pictures yes I know, but its that time pretty darn annoying to wait till the blinking red not burdensome on the viewfinder turns a solid green. I missed some personal property shots waiting for it to finish saving.

4)Digital zoom. That r is pretty much worthless. Every attempt at using the functions made 99% percent of my pictures look like trash, and thats WITH good light available. Simply limit use to the 3x zoom at one's fingertips and you should be fine.

    5) And thats about all that I can think of at the blink. *whew*

**Final Word: This is a great camera for a tyro since its easy to use, and for intermediates also. For professionals, probably not, due to numberless limitations it may have. (But its not meant for that reason anywho, so that doesn't upon. It's a fantastic point and shoot camera. Period.)

    This narrow-minded thing ROCKS!!!
I wasn't pregnant this Camera to be so small.. so that took some getting employed to.. I got this camera so I could email pics to family, and that works spectacular!!! But, I also wanted itso I could send pics to the email whereabouts's that I have for Facebook and myspace, but it doesn't work for those. It , a substitute alternatively posts a link to click to view the pic, which of course doesn't profession so I just send the pics to MY email and do my uploads from my phone (I receive email on my phone so i can open the pics with it & save the pics to my pho) or processor..Pretty cool..The pics are great!! It's pretty easy to set up ur Email add's in the phone.. Would I warn anyone to buy this phone?? Yes!!!! But I would advise you likewise to get the little carrying case cuz It doesn't come with it and at the end of the day, ya need it!!!!
    Whey-faced Balance problems
This is my second Nikon Coolpix. I've had this camera for a dwarf over one year and decided to buy something else. Pictures enchanted in low light, with flash turn out poorly. Adjusting the Silver Meter is like hoping for the best. I sent my camera to Nikon to be adjusted, with pictures charmed with other Nikons (idential locations/subject) that my m own to show the differences. Our other Nikons have a much take down MP's. Nikon adjusted something, sent it back with a double of the White Balance instruction (I did read the booklet before I sent the camera for patch up) page and said it was good to go. Not, the same problems happen. Compelling outdoors and brighter light, not so good in doors no matter the camera habitat. My old Nikon was much better.
    Nikon Coolpix
I'm glad with this camera..and still learning ... it has features I wasn't
wise of. Just the right size to carry in pocket or purse.

    Skilful starter camera
I bought this for my forebear who is getting older and want to keep up with the times. This was a realize basic camera for his use. Screen is large enough and there arnt too multifarious buttons to get confused.

1 Con: I was playing with it and realized that pictures in low beaming are more fuzzy then i would have wanted, but for ordinary basic use, this shouldn't been a major concern.
    Careful, not great.
I've had this camera for a little more than a year now, earlier I broke the lens on the camera. It worked well for me when I went to Japan to follow quick snap shots of where I visited (mostly front). The start up for the camera is very fast, opening up immediately when you request the "on" button; this was something I especially needed and wanted, specifically, for my winter dance there, and also one of the main reasons why I bought this camera was for the unshakeable start up speed. When I was visiting Japan, I was able to strut down a section of the street and easily pull out my camera to take off for a quick snap shot without having to stop. That role was wonderful to have when I was in a rush.

The battery life was astounding, which was also something I was looking into. I needed my camera to remain throughout the whole day when I was visiting Japan and it ended up durable longer than a day. If I remembered correctly though, I may have asked for the stretched out battery life when I bought the camera, so they may father upgraded that for me. I was able to use this camera for a whole week and but needed to charge it twice. To me, that's a super win win situation, because my old camera had a unpleasant battery life, which only lasted a couple hours.

The importance of this camera was nice for the most part, but at times it would be unfocused. It definitely showed clarity for most of my pictures, but there would be occasions when some of the pictures don't convergence all too well. You would have to hold the camera extremely unmoving sometimes in order to capture a certain moment... I recoup myself taking more than one picture of same note sometimes in order to get it "just" right. If you're a perfectionist in terms of pellucidity, this would be the best suited camera to select. I would calm enjoy the camera (if I hadn't broken it), since it's 10 mega-pixels for all showed me a lot of detail in my pictures, but you'd have to be a bit patient.

The functionality of the camera was relaxing to use and set up, give or take a few moments where I needed to look up something in the vade-mecum, in order to find more details of what the button/purpose did.

The optical zoom of the camera was nice to have, but it wasn't huge. I was expecting to have more focus in the zoom, considering this was a 4x the visual zoom preference. The lens in this camera, or any camera with outrageous zoom, protrudes outwards when it's on, so you have to be careful not to pop in on it while it's on, or it could be jammed. Since the "on" and "off" button on this camera is almost certainly accessible, it was also easy for things to push into it and coin on, thus, turning on the camera and pushing out the lens outward. Because of this, my camera lens poor, and/or was jammed, when my friend left this camera on the leather love-seat and someone pushed it aside, turning it on because it hit something, and marginal person sat on it (cause they didn't see it), which essentially despairing the camera lens... it was an unfortunate event, considering how I had bought this jotting at full price when it first came out.

I like the camera, but it could be well-advised b wealthier. I would still like to own another one if I had the money to buy a new, mainly, for the way it looks. I recognize that sounds kinda shallow, but it looks pretty velvety, and it's the perfect size for me (not too small, and not too big).

Overall, it's good, but not great. It has a lustfully and speedy start up function. The picture quality is good, but the centre can be a little off making it a bit blurred. The lens and LCD screen for any particular camera is danged fragile, and this camera is NOT an exception. Happy purchasing, person. I hope my comments help a bit.

    Sony Cybershot T900 image quality?

I am currently using a Nikon Coolpix 4100 camera and was all in all to replace it with this sony t900. Does self know if the overall picture quality (uncommonly indoors) of the sony would be better than the nikon's? I grasp it's not really a fair comparison since the sony is a 12mp shooter while the nikon is a 4mp shooter.

But legitimate wanted to know, since I heard sony's t series had been famous for poor low light image quality with great noise at high ISOs.

Would understand if someone would enlighten me on whether the sony t900 is satisfactory enough to replace my old cam. Thanks in advance.
