    On and Off in Seattle
The Panasonic Lumix DMC 18X Zoom camera is a remarkably nice and light weight model. I have been using it since Dec. of 2008. It was a bit fussy to learn at first due to all the different settings available and my not being a knowledgeable. However, I was very much drawn to it due to the wonderful zoom capabilities. I was cast-off to a 10X Zoom with my Olympus C-740 and Zoom was important as I did not hunger for to get into changing lenses quite yet. Once I got used to it's features I was masterful to take some very nice photos and the videos were genuine with the FZ28 and if I wanted I could change lenses...I never did buy other lenses. I was nice-looking happy with what I was getting. Then disaster struck. Unfortunately, the on and off handle quit working a few days ago (just slides back and forth and nothing happens) and I was formerly larboard with a decision on what to do. Repairing it was quite expensive compared to buying different similar camera. I did a little research and found that Panasonic has a newer archetype for a reasonable price on Amazon, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 (18X Zoom). At the back comparing it with the comprable Nikon Coolpix P100 (26X Visual Zoom) and the Canon SX20IS (20X Optical)...I began to concoct it was the Nikon I wanted instead because it had the higher Zoom...after all, after finding out that you cannot charge the battery surface of the camera for the Nikon and the Canon uses AA batteries instead of the battery-operated packs the Panasonic uses I realized that I would be happier with the Panasonic FZ35 afterall and for some other reasons as okay...so, I just ordered it and am awaiting it's arrival. Another feature I like with Panasonic is that you can impersonate, move, etc. photos between the camera and your computer with no other software needed on my PC besides explorer and windows XP. Evidently this is not the chest with some cameras. Also, a bit of a hassle I found out, I apprehend the FZ35 manual is on pdf rather than paper...although an inconvenience, I can end with it. Pricewise it is also doable, since I am still not clever for that bigger step of the DSLR.
    Utter Good Prosumer Camera
Dialect right good wide angle shots. 18x is too much, adding complexities to lens for apathetic and softer images. Too many modes.
Better EVF and manual dead zooming would be nice.
    Disillusioned with picture quality
Photograph is grainy and not very highly defined. Pictures taken with 7 mega pixel sincere point-and-shoot cameras look much better than pictures bewitched with this camera. Very disappointing for a higher excellence camera.
Weighty camera for most amateur photographers
I've bewitched pictures for many years, beginning with a 1940's 35mm Argus where you had to set the lighting, target and everything else, a professional zoom Nikon, right up to a characteristic and shoot simple digital and this camera is such a avail choice, you can adjust it to do most anything, but in trying to simplify vital spark, I have used mostly the auto focus mode and am hellishly impressed with the results; especially using in areas without a classy. I have taken great pictures of fireworks and gotten unventilated-ups of lectures and grandsons on a school stage all without using any other major settings. As for the auto focus, it has a fine point, so that, for model when I have taken pictures of cherry blossoms, pointing at the blossoms, force a good close-up and then move the auto focus thrust a bit to the Jefferson Memorial and gotten a good picture of it with the pink blossoms still in the picture. The auto stabilization works quality, especially when pulling out the camera fast for a quick portray. The zoom brings most objects in for suitable viewing, align equalize from several hundred feet away.
The battery does earmarks of to run out sooner than I expected, but then that is also because I am frequently using the zoom feature. I simply bought another battery-operated and have it charged at the ready. The camera will tell you when the mobile power is running low.
My only complaint has been I have obsolete two lenses because they don't seem to fit tightly on the threads ample to stay there. Otherwise it is a camera that is `big' enough to win wonderful pictures, but can be tucked into a bag of a medium size receptacle in a backpack.
    Lilliputian sensor, big quality
I intended my Pentax DSLR, but find it too bulky and heavy for hikes and some hang around. I bought the FZ28 because of reasonable photo quality and, unlike the ultra compacts, I can in actuality hold and use it without tripping buttons I don't intend to. Understand that the sensor is teeny-minuscule. The physics of the situation guarantee problems with noise, and that any attemps at thunder reduction will smear detail.

Use the viewfinder to frame and conglomerate the autofocus. This finder was never meant for fine cynosure clear and any composition but framing. When I need to hold the camera persistent, I use the finder, instead of the screen.

I actually find that, set shooting JPG's, the overexposure warning is a bit hysterical. Opening them in Photoshop, I catch there's some headroom left. The colors are not the over-satuated kandy kolors of some compacts; they're usual.

I do agree that noise reduction takes too heavy a chime on image sharpness. I found the noise excessive at ISO 400;ISO 100 makes a have of difference. My advice? Shoot at 100 whenever possible and bolt RAW if you have the gut feeling the image is worth the work. Turn the Spread Reduction down as far as it will go. Deal with the noise in your RAW processor. You will-power see color fringing in your RAW images, because the JPG in-camera processor isn't there to agreement with it. My CS2 deals with it easily.

I don't like the supplied software; certainly unintuitive. If using SilkyPix (and if you dislike it as much as I do), I save the RAWs as 16-bit TIF's and travail them in Photoshop, OR save your Panasonic RAWs in a file. Download Adobe's DNG Coverter for casual. Identify the files in which you have your RAWs and in which you yearning them saved. Hit "Convert" and all your Panasonic RAWs will be DNG's. Employment the DNG's in any editing software you wish. I use Photoshop CS2.

Formatting the card is too big a presentation. FORMAT is too deep in the menus. I'd like to see the RAW setting accessible via the Summary Menu.

    Indestructible beyond belief
This is my fourth year using this camera. It's been roughly the world, been dropped, been used on the beach, in the thunder-shower, on a bike (taken falls off the bike with me). It even then works perfectly. Although the LCD is raised, it does not participate in one scratch. And the picutres! It still takes better pictures than most new cameras. Neat, better than slide film and SLR, as far as I'm concerned. Makes me look like a able. Worth every penny.
    Earnest Amateur
I ardour this camera! This is my 3rd digital upgrade since opening with digital cameras. I am not a pro in photography, and have no real petition to get into the nitty gritty of apatures and all the tech stuff... but I sadness deeply about getting some great pictures. SO.. I large as much as I have to with the technical. I especially love honest people shots, and do a lot of indoor photography in places where unflagging flash is undesirable, such as weddings and other church services.
I discovered that what aids this the most is a big lens, stabilization and solicitous zoom... which led me to this camera, and I was NOT disappointed.

The larger lens has certified me to get the most amazing indoor with no flash pictures. Yes there are still limitations, and I even so get a percentage of blurred photos, but not anywhere near as many as I use to. And the zoom!!! I reasonable returned from AZ where I took a river boat execute, and a flock of mountain sheep was spotted high on the canyon walls. I could only see them with my naked eye.. could only really comedos them from movement, but I zooming in fully, and kept clicking. Wow! I got the most stunning pictures. I've also gotten some great pictures infatuated from those tiny airplane windows as the plane is winning off and landing. Some great overviews of the San Francisco bay... and was adept to zoom into some boats on the water even. The feel embarrassed is great!

You ever try taking people pictures of people who don't like having their pictures captivated... like family and friends? With this camera I turned off all normal, use no flash, and am able to zoom in easily from across the live, and I get the best family and friends candid pictures! Also the most superbly thing I did besides buying this camera was to get an extra battery-operated, and buy a 1MB media card. I seldom run out of room or battery power (over this)even when I'm on an extended vacation. Even behind schedule 2 weeks in AZ, I just took my SD media card to WalMart and had it put onto a photo CD.. and cleared it for more pictures. I only needed to do this once... and took over a thousand pics (unqualified) on vacation! All in all I'm now drooling over the newer and improved models of the despite the fact camera!!

Pros: Large lens, great zoom, wonderful color, very stable, comfortable grip, good settings and talented to take great pictures while you are still learning them. A immense point and shoot camera for non technical people who still want flagrant pictures.

Cons: I usually use the auto focus and there is a temporize of a few seconds while the camera focuses before I can snap the show. This is a pain sometimes, and I miss some great push of the moment pics because of it. The lens cap is a pain, too, as it is not attached. I refuge't yet, but am afraid I will lose it. I wish the camera was smaller, but wouldn't commerce off the larger lens for lesser quality.
    A harmonious good camera
I bought this camera back in May of 2004, and I bear not had any problems since. One thing I have learned is that mega pixels are not all things. I bought my father a 4MP minolta S414 and the pictures are not as sharp as my camera. I evaluate that has something to do with the lense. The long zoom is barest nice. Up until today I never printed out a picture bigger than 8X10 Today I paid for a epitome to be blown up to 16X20 and it looks pretty darn good. Certain things like the give in grip and resolution could be improved (and they have been with the newer models) I was judgement of replacing this camera with something like the FZ20, FZ30 or the new 8MP samsung with the 3.5" partition. However after seeing how nice my 16X20 blow up turned out to be, I create I will keep it for a while.
    Passion it!!!
This camera brings the steady beauty of pictures if you edit them with software and on various types of filters. Visit my gallery at http://www.betterphoto.com/terrace/dynoGallByMember.asp?mem=74482 and you'll know what I mean.
    A wonderful piece of engineering!
When Panasonic released this camera in the in of 2003, I couldn't wait for it to be available for sale. A couple of months passed and it was soul sold out even before it was available anywhere in the market. At that pith, I couldn't wait and I contacted a Panasonic dealer and reserved one right somewhere else. I was on the waiting list for 2 more months and I finally got it in Jan 2004. A 12x stabilized visual zoom at that time was unheard of on a consumer camera. It was affecting! I could take pictures at full 12X without a tripod and the stabilizer made effective the pictures were perfect. For $599 it was the best digital camera out there. It has barely been a year since I bought this camera and I am even now in love with it; but I wish I had waited. When Panasonic came out with the constant camera but with a 5.0 mega pixels at the same toll earlier this year, I was kicking myself for being so instinctive. Nevertheless, it is a great piece of engineering. The camera feels like a tank- entirely solid but not all that heavy at the same time. I have captured some of the most staggering pictures with this camera, which I will gem for the rest of my life.

If you don't really care about all the features and even-handed want a small digital camera to carry around and take away pictures with, I wouldn't recommend this camera for you. This is more like a camera you would yen to take to your trip to the Grand Canyon and capture the soup taking shots or the perfect sunset that you always wanted to capture and maintain it blown up. There are so many features in this camera, it desire take a good couple of weeks for you to read the manual and get in use accustomed to to them.

I am not going to list all the features this camera has; you can review about them on the product description page or you can go to the Panasonic homepage and get a more particularized description of all the cool features you can find in this camera. Manner, I do want to make a couple of points:

This camera uses a Leica lens. For those of you who are not in with this brand, Leica Camera AG is a world-celebrated German camera and lens maker. Just the name Leica, in the photography sphere, is synonymous with durability, quality, and optical precision. Leica makes lenses that expense thousands of dollars for high-end professional cameras so for Leica to peculiarity its lens in this Panasonic camera tells it all.

One thing a lot of people don't look at when they are buying a digital camera is if you can add further lenses and filters like you can with a 35mm SLR. Although a 12X optical zoom (interchangeable to a 36mm to 432mm in a 35mm camera) will be more than enough for most of us, some of us energy want to add conversion or teleconversion lenses or filters and YES you can with this camera. Let me issue you an example of what a 12X zoom can do: How many times have u been to a NFL or a baseball daring and have taken pictures only to find out that you can't uniform make out what number jersey a player is wearing when u get the pictures? Reasonably, with this camera, I have been talking pictures at games and let me put you, they are just amazing! Besides all the close-up shots of all my partiality players, I could even capture those priceless facial jargon when someone makes a hit or at that moment when a recipient catches the ball for a touchdown.... it's truly amazing!

You cannot go askew with this camera!

    no such subject as old
when a camera shoots talented fantastic pics, ther is no such thing as being dreary, i buy older camera's they might not have all these garnishing of todays cameras which you might not use anyway, but these cameras are built excel stronger and have better lenses even if their pixels are slash than today's cameras, i think they out perform them when it comes to standing pics, especially the panasonic lumix dmc fz line of cameras, is the most amazing! i sedate all of them and i treat them as jewels.
    Benefit Camera
The camera is kinda old but takes some lyrical great pictures. I haven't gotten the hang of everything but its a nice-looking good cam. The viewfinder could be bigger most definitely and while the guide says the max card it can use is 1GB, I'm using a 2GB Sandisk Extreme III Card with the camera set on its highest settings which gives me far 1172 pictures to take. According to the manual, if I'm understanding fairly, this particular model doesn't have sound to the video but the subsequent model does. Not a biggie for me. It comes with a lens cap and garnishing to the keep the light out the picture, connecting it to the printer, among other things. Virtuous camera. It was about 94 dollars without shipping and with what you get in the expenditure it was a great deal, but I'd rather get a more recent model that has a viewfinder and bigger visual zoom. This is the more recent version: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K 10MP Digital Camera with 18x Extensive Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Diabolical)
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ4 4MP Digital Camera
With out a scruple one of the best little zoom cameras ever! The Leica lens is remarkable and our shoots are wonderful!

I find my self carrying this with me in my car at all times. We cause bigger, more expensive digitals, but this continues to be my penchant all around camera. Our little ones (3 grandchildren) can not evade the pictures with this one! and they are IN FOCUS to boot!

Buy one if you can judge one.
Important Cmera - though a bit old by now
Countless Caera, Great photos, however this is a 2005 working model,
these days I would buy the Great Panasonic FZ7.

However this is a heinous Camera that takes excellent pictures!

    A "Most desirable Buy" Secret
At the back of several months of use, the FZ4 continues to impress me. I had originally planned to get the FZ5 to put in place of my 3-yr old Panasonic LC5 but when I tried both, I found that an extra $100 or so bought me a shed weight larger LCD (not enough to matter), sound when using the talking picture mode (which I have not used on any digital camera) and other sterile gadgetry, like choice of silver or black body. I quality that the FZ4 is slightly faster and noise, which is usually seen in the shadows at higher ISO, is slight reduced---and no purple fringing, period. Both are excellent cameras within their object parameters as cameras for sports, family gettogethers, nature and excursion, not portrait or studio work although enlargements on the FZ4 are fine up to and including 8x11 and over again even larger. What it lacks is a complete set of manual rudder but if you want that you must get a DSLR and a couple of zoom lenses which pleasure set you back several thousand. My Panasonic DMC-FZ4 was well under US$250, including tax and shipping.
