Adoration this camera, but it kills batteries quickly
I truly like this camera it does't have that frustrating face recognition software, the pictures come out great and it is a allowable value, the video has audio with it and actually can run for a long beat. The only problem is that it will take the charge out of conformable batteries in about an hour. I started using lithium batteries and the camera works kindly with those, it can last a week with continuous use. In looking back I wish I had purchased a camera that came with a rechargeable freestyle pack, and not one that goes through regular batteries so swiftly, but it was $50 and I like it, so it gets 4 stars

An okay locale and shoot, but be prepared to replace it
I had worn the DSC-S500's predecessors and was very pleased. Sony made some changes, in all events, that I found to be a pain. They switched to regular batteries from rechargable batteries, which means more batteries in the landfill. There is in the same way a long delay when shooting and the color is even more obscene (even by Sony's standards). After using this camera for 2 years, varied of the buttons don't work - so I can't go through the menu to change settings.

Sony Cyber Sharpshooter
A stomach-turning camera, gave me nothing but trouble since day 1 - and, of sure, the warranty only applies in the US. Too many problems to shopping list but most annoying is the unreliability. I lost several photo shoots due to it.

The minuscule camera that could
I got this camera yon two years ago and it's still going! Broken battery cap and all! I have a predilection to drop things, and this camera is no exception, but it never breaks on me. It's ruined in a couple places and, yes, the battery cap is falling off, but it still takes amazing pictures! I'm constantly impressed by the quality of the photos. I take it in with me and it refuses to break (no matter how badly I want one of those extravagant new ones). So, if you're a klutz like me, this is the camera for you!

Chagrined it's a Sony!
I bought this camera because of Sony's recapitulation of making excellent products. Boy was I disappointed! After a few weeks the camera would disobediently off by itself, flash internal diagnostic malfunctions, and basically straight refuse to work. Not only is it useless but it burns through batteries (rechargeable and alkalines) faster than the aid of light. I usually got less than 15 pictures or four minutes of video. I could not on my receipt to return it but with shipping and drama I have solid to turn it into a boat anchor instead and live-and-learn. Reading other neutralizing reviews about this product I can only surmise hotshot was asleep at the switch when Sony designed this camera. I take continued to grow dissatisfied with other Sony products and order buy from their competitors from now on.

On/Off problems..don't buy
Overdue reading some of the other reviews here, I feel I be required to also report on/off problems with this camera. Then it works fine, but most of the time when you turn the camera on it see fit either briefly power up and then immediately shut off or continue to be on for a few seconds and then shut off. I have changed batteries again, so it isn't dead batteries, although it does seem to suck the mortal out of batteries very quickly.

I've had this camera since most recent 2006 and it worked fine for a little over a year. I can see two workable causes.

1.) Defective on/off switch.
2.) Poorly designed battery chamber. The connectors are so tiny here and recessed into the cover, I don't see how they can alter b transfer good contact with the batteries. There also seems to be some extent for the batteries to wiggle within the compartment which may cause spasmodic contact.

I like the camera when it works, but now I am debating whether to allot the money to send it to Sony for repair. If the problem is #1 (above), what's to stoppage the switch from going bad again. If it's #2, this is a breach in the camera design and probably can't be fixed.

Usual Problems
My daughters camera seems to be experiencing the done problem as others. She bought it at 14 years old with her own $ to tolerate on a school field trip to Washington. She took about 50 shots and then the power handle would only work randomly or the lense would over coming out or closing. Being an electrical engineer I would surmise that the motor for the cover/lens draws so much widely known that the battery voltage drops so low that the camera shuts off. I arrange tried brand new Eveready Copper tops with no happenstance. If I try it 4 or 5 times and can't coax it to life I can sometimes set it to view the pictures and then skate it over to the take picture mode and it will stay on. I sense bad as I talked her into a $300 Sony telling her to buy a good brand pre-eminence and it would last for years. Tough lesson for a 14 year old spending babysitting wealthy!

Reasonably decent camera
Cute good all around camera for what it is. Battery usage is not bad, don't use rechargeables or you command be disappointed in the performance. You can take lots of pictures with a 1gig mindfulness before its full. Uses AA batteries which are easily obtainable on the verge of anywhere.

Picture quality is pretty good, focuses comely easily. Movies are pretty good. Overall an easy to use camera.

Rated a 4 because it is low-cost.

THE Most excellently CAMERA EVER!
I honey this camera, it takes great pictures, it is so user kind, and is built like a tank but is really light. I have captivated exelent pictures with the open shutter mode on the camera and the flush options are awesome. This camera is so easy to use, you turn it on, you the wire the button and you have a picture, press menu and you have all of these settings at your figertips! I dropped this camera assorted times, the last one i dropped it on the ground and the memory slot opened and the postcard popped out! (opps!) but it works just like it in any case does. This camera is made for everyone, the pro photographer, the midway user, and the person who is new to photography. I would recemend sony and any of it's exellent cameras to everybody.
